Educational content, not veterinary advice

Everything published on Pet & Pet is general educational information about the care of companion animals, written by Pet & Pet, an independent publishing project run by Hugo Mellado. It is written carefully and checked against reputable sources, but it is not a diagnosis, not a treatment plan and not a substitute for professional veterinary care.

Only a licensed veterinarian who examines your animal can diagnose a condition, prescribe medication, calculate a dose or judge whether a treatment is appropriate for that individual. Species, breed, age, weight, pregnancy, existing illnesses and current medications all change the answer. Nothing you read here should delay a phone call to your own clinic.

In an emergency

If your animal is struggling to breathe, bleeding heavily, collapsed, seizing, unable to urinate, retching without producing anything, or has swallowed something toxic, stop reading and contact your veterinarian or the nearest emergency animal hospital immediately. In the United States you can also reach the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center or the Pet Poison Helpline; both charge a consultation fee and both are staffed around the clock.

No professional relationship

Reading this site, leaving a comment or sending us an email does not create a veterinarian-client-patient relationship. We cannot and will not attempt to diagnose an animal by email, and we do not answer individual medical questions. If you write to us about a sick pet, our answer will always be the same: please see your vet.

Accuracy and change over time

Veterinary guidance evolves. Recommendations on nutrition, vaccination schedules, parasite prevention and enrichment change as new research appears, and regional advice differs โ€” heartworm, ticks and local disease risks are not the same in Florida as in Montana. We update articles when we can, but we cannot guarantee that every page reflects the most recent consensus at the moment you read it.

Product mentions

When we describe a type of product โ€” a solid-surface wheel, a UVB tube, a liquid water test kit โ€” we are describing a category and the reasoning behind it, not certifying any particular brand. We do not accept payment for editorial recommendations. If a page ever contains affiliate links or sponsored placement, it will say so plainly on that page.

Advertising

This site is funded by third-party advertising served by Google. Advertisements are selected by the advertising network, not by us, and their appearance here is not an endorsement of the advertiser or of any product or service promoted. We are not responsible for advertisers’ claims. How advertising data is handled is set out in our privacy policy and cookie policy.

Your responsibility

You are responsible for decisions you make about your own animals. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Pet & Pet and its editor accept no liability for any harm, loss, injury or expense resulting from the use of, or reliance on, information published here.
